In July 2003 the 3 manual Norman & Beard organ in Grangers Lane Methodist Church, Cradley Heath, was shipped to China.
The Church was closing but the organ was saved. In conjunction with Byrne Organ Builders South Africa, and Wakeley Organs, Organ Builders, Australia, we dismantled the organ to be re-assembled in Gulangyu Organ Museum, Xiamen, South East China.
Within 5 days the organ was dismantled and packed into a container.
For more details you can click the picture and visit the organists web site.
Sometimes organs need to be dismantled to replace the floor underneath. Wooden floors can become rotten. Organs are very heavy and can collapse. The pictures here shows Hook Norton near Banbury. The organ is falling to the right as the floor has given way.
The organ was completely removed, cleaned, action buttons and cloths replaced and bellows re-leathered.
